50 Years Ago The Beatles Conquered America
It is hard to believe 50 years have gone by. Two of the four Beatles are no longer with us, unfortunately. Paul and Ringo are older than I am and still make music today. It sucks seeing Paul as an old man. But then again, it sucks seeing myself almost as old as they are. Ugh!
But the music they made back in 1963 / 1964 was magical. Here in the United States, we had just buried our beloved President John F. Kennedy. The Beatles came to the rescue of young Americans in mourning (like myself), taking the United States by storm in early 1964. Their contagious, upbeat, feel-good, music lifted our heavy hearts and our broken spirits, and their first stop on our shores was the Washington Coliseum in D.C.
I can't say that I Wanna Hold Your Hand is my very favorite Beatles' tune, but it's certainly tied for first place along with at least 20 more of their songs. But this, their first single, evokes such wonderful, thrilling memories of youthful innocence, of happy days gone by, and a time when rock and roll was young and on the rise to its pinnacle some decades later. (Yes, I think rock and roll as we knew it in the 60s and 70s is long dead since the 80s and replaced by a lot of crap!)
This clip from YouTube is from their first British Invasion visit to Washington, DC when they captured the hearts of American youth. I will never forget that magical feeling of being a crazy Beatlemaniac!
Enjoy the nostalgia...
